ELECTION UPDATE! DENNIS HAYASHI WINS SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE RACE! Dennis Hayashi won the Alameda County Superior Court Judge race yesterday, obtaining 61% of the vote in the November 4th election. Dennis garnered 222,457 votes – a resounding victory based on a campaign for fairness and on his longtime experience as a public interest attorney. “I want to thank the Alameda County voters for their support and for making their voices heard in this important election,” said Dennis. “I feel honored and privileged to have been elected, and I pledge to move forward with my promise of promoting a fair judiciary, and work for the betterment of our Alameda County community.” The November election served as a run-off for the open seat that was vacated by retired Judge Kenneth Kingsbury. Judges serve for six-year terms.
TRI-VALLEY LEADERS ENDORSE DENNIS HAYASHI FOR JUDGE
“Dennis spent three decades defending and upholding women’s equality,” stated Representative Tauscher. “As Director of the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, he fought for equal pay for women and defended those who experienced discrimination on the job. Dennis has the integrity and experience to promote fairness and ensure justice in our Superior Court.” Congresswoman Tauscher is serving her sixth term representing the 10th Congressional District, which includes Livermore and other parts of Alameda County. She is a leader on transportation issues, working to revitalize California’s infrastructure, as well as on homeland security, being the only member of Congress to represent two national defense laboratories – Lawrence Livermore and Sandia California. Based in Pleasanton, Congressman McNerney represents the 11th District and serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. An energy technology expert, he is dedicated to environmental issues and serves on the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Both Representative Tauscher and Representative McNerney believe that Dennis is the best candidate to represent Alameda County, and will bring experience, fairness, and integrity to the bench.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM CRIME VICTIMS UNITED
Crime Victims United is proud to support Dennis Hayashi for Superior Court Judge. As the voice for victims, our goal is to make public safety California’s biggest priority. Last year, over 190,000 Californians were victims of violent crimes. Their lives and the lives of their families have been changed forever. I know…because I lost my own daughter to violent crime. Dennis Hayashi is a fighter for our cause. As a public interest attorney, he has dedicated his career to helping victims of injustice. He was the director of the Fair Employment and Housing Department and led our nation’s civil rights office. In case after case, Dennis fought discrimination and protected our rights. He investigated hate crimes and counseled victims. Dennis Hayashi is a voice for the people. Dennis has the integrity and qualifications to promote fairness and ensure justice in our courts. Please join me in voting for Dennis Hayashi on November 4! Sincerely,
Harriet Salarno
JUNE 5 ELECTION DENNIS HAYASHI EMERGES AS THE LEADING CANDIDATE IN JUNE 5 PRIMARY Dennis Hayashi was the top vote-getter in Tuesday's election, winning 43.7% of the vote out of four candidates running for the Superior Court Judge seat. The strong showing of 74,950 votes for Dennis demonstrated the people's connection to his experience as a public interest attorney and value of his work in consumer protection and public safety. There will be a run-off in the November 4th general election. “I would like to thank the voters for their overwhelming support in the June 5th primary,” stated Dennis. “I am honored to be on the November ballot as the top-vote getter, and look forward to this opportunity to further discuss my candidacy and commitment to a fair and accessible judicial system with the residents of Alameda County.”
CANDIDATE STATEMENT The position of Judge of the Alameda County Superior Court carries with it great responsibility both to the legal community and to the community at large. If elected to this position, I would work diligently to fulfill both. I have had a lifelong commitment to public service. While an attorney for more than twelve years with the Asian Law Caucus, I litigated numerous cases on behalf of low income residents who faced discrimination or harassment on the job or threats to their civil liberties. I was proud to have served as co-counsel to Fred Korematsu, who successfully challenged and had his conviction vacated to his World War II conviction for refusing to report to an internment camp. Under President Clinton, I was the Director of the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, responsible for ensuring the enforcement of the Age Discrimination Act, Americans with Disability Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. For 5 years, I served as the Director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which enforces the Fair Employment and Housing Act, the Unruh Act and the Ralph Act, which addresses acts of hate violence. Most recently, I served as an elected representative to the Board of AC Transit working to ensure affordable transportation to all residents of Alameda County. My commitment to public services leads me to seek election to Judge of the Superior Court. I believe strongly that judges must be impartial and independent of the Legislature and the Governor. I believe that the courts remain accessible to all residents, regardless of disability, ability to speak English or income, and above all else, I believe judges must render decisions that are fair and free of bias. If you believe as strongly as I do in a judiciary that is independent, accessible and fair, then I ask for your vote. Thank you. Dennis Hayashi |
